Are you struggling to figure out why you cannot sync your iPhone exchange account – unable to connect to server?
We know how frustrating it can be to have iPhone ActiveSync issues like unable to connect to server no email coming into your iPhone inbox. What can you do? First you contact Apple Technical support, who emails you a link to read the “Apple Exchange Server Deployment Guide”. Then you contact AT&T, who can’t even understand Microsoft Exchange, but suggests you purchase their “Enterprise Data Plan” (By the way, it is not necessary. Don’t purchase the Enterprise Data Plan)
TechnoKOZ realizes your pain. We offer the most affordable iPhone 3.0 Exchange ActiveSync installation Support Services for enterprise, profit/nonprofit, and small business. “I should have saved myself the headaches and contacted you sooner!!!”
Organizations and companies even abroad are seeking the talents of TechnoKOZ. We recently had the PLEASURE of solving iphone Active Sync problem for the International Hockey Federation out of Switzerland.

- You need a fully qualified ssl certificate from a authority such as Godaddy / Verisign. THIS IS FALSE. You do not need to purchase a certificate for the iPhone to sync with your exchange server. Save your money!!! Don’t make Godaddy or Verisign rich.
- You have to install a certificate on the iPhone. THIS IS FALSE. You do not need to install any certificates on the phone. Save time!! Don’t do it. It will not improve your chances to sync
- You need to update your iPhone to the latest firmware: iPhone 2.2 update. THIS IS FALSE. If your Windows 2003 Exchange server is configured, your iPhone will connect correctly.
- Need AT&T Business Data Plan for Exchange to Sync. THIS IS FALSE. Again, save your money. I am not sure why AT&T has this ploy. Their regular data plan works fine with Exchange.
- Resetting the IPHONE to factory defaults. THIS IS FALSE. Have not seen many times where a factory reset fixed a sync issue.
- Windows 2003 Exchange Server does not support IPHONE. THIS IS FALSE. Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 does support the iPhone and it connects.

YET, the intention of the site is to sell them more BLING BLING for the iphone. We did are own searching recently and we were chuckling over the fact that 98% of the post would not even get you close to a solution. Remember to backup your system before trying some of these posts. We have seen some very questionable suggestions that might create you a Bigger mess then you were bargaining for.
-
Phone a Friend – Contact all of your friends – technicians in your circle. You will be amazed on the suggestions. Some will suggest going to 2007, because 2003 does not support iPhone (WRONG). Some will suggest getting a legitimate certificate from Verisign (WRONG AGAIN).

Don’t be fooled by inferior iPhone Exchange Setup help
Most people contacting our support center are receiving the “connection to server failed message” on their new iPhone 3Gs phone for our FLAT RATE FEE of $175.00.
OK, If you have been reading all of these Apple iPhone 3Gs: Exchange account verification failed “blog” posts on the Internet, there are Techs who are trying to convince you that their iPhone Setup solution is “BEST”.

Well, here are some of the more common iPhone Exchange Setup Blog post “misconceptions” you should avoid.
1. You do not need to purchase a certificate from Verisign, Godaddy, etc. A simple self signed certificate will work.
2. DO NOT waste your time installing certificates on the 3G iphone. Again, I am not sure why people continue to instruct you to head this way.
3. Forget about RPC-HTTP. This has nothing to do with iPhone Activesync. We do think RPC-HTTP is a great connectivity tool for Outlook desktop client. But, having RPC working will not improve your OMA/ActiveSync for the iPhone 3G.
4. Do not change the server’s computer name!!! (Stange that someone would, but we have seen this two times now.)
5. Do not reset the anonymous password for the default web site!! (We have seen this 3 times now.)
5. These errors are confusing. Just make sure you have Service Pack 2 for exchange. This will solve 90 percent of your issues. If you want a guided setup tour. Check out our TechnoKOZ iPhone Setup Cook Book.
If in doubt, don’t follow the google suggestion. You will find out that your OWA (Outlook Web Access page will stop working, or worse people lose connectivity to your Microsoft Exchange 2003 / 2007 server)
Call TECHNOKOZ, first: 480.440.4650 / Skype: TECHNOKOZ

There are more people experiencing issues like “Connection to server failed.”
We recently solved a customer with:
Windows SBS 2003 – Exchange 2003 (SP2)
T1 connection with a SonicWall Firewall
When we began our test process, OMA, Active-Sync, OWA, Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync all worked.
One of their users had a large mailbox – 700MB in size. They were using the original iPhone v1 and they updated it to 3G firmware. They were receiving the “Connection to the server failed” message.
We Create a new Exchange mailbox account for a test user. This new account could connect to the new iPhone and send, receive email. Yet, when we tried importing email messages into this Test exchange mailbox account, the test account stopped working. (No more sync)
We solved this difficult issue.

Having iPhone Exchange sync setup problems?
We have received many calls direct from the Business Owner and especially IT Computer Repair Companies about this CRAZY iPhone Sync problem. We understand you situation quite well.
The theme is quite common. Google for days, trying all sorts of solutions:
- RPC/HTTP (Outlook Anywhere) – Following the setup steps for outlook anywhere will provide better performance for your outlook desktop client, but again WRONG
- Opening ports on the Sonicwall / Cisco Pix / WatchGuard firewall: 993, 143, etc. – Wrong, you just need port 443 (SSL)
- Change the password of the Anonymous account on IIS – TRIPLE WRONG!!!
- Change the Domain name / DNS suffix of your exchange server DOUBLE DOUBLE WRONG!!! Please do not follow those instructions…. Creates a big mess for you and me!!
- Configure IMAP – WRONG – This would only make your phone a glorified brick. TechnoKOZ will get not only email flowing into your phone, but CONTACTS, and CALENDAR as well.
As for Apple Computer fixing your problem, forget it!! They are only interested in one functionality working on that phone…. iTunes!!
As for Microsoft Corporation fixing your iPhone Exchange activesync problem with a patch!! Microsoft will send you to their support forum to submit your iPhone Sync issue.

This is the reason why we wrote this iPhone Exchange Setup Guide.

Google Answers gone wrong!
Here is a sample of the junk on google right now for this iPhone Exchange Setup problem:

- Reset the IIS Admin password for the Default Web site. : Would you like about 2 hours of a repair headache getting your OWA back to working condition? Yes, this suggestion is a REAL show stopper. Avoid it at all cost
- Change the Server’s Domain name to match certificate name. This idea creates major METABASE security corruption. Not sure of the intentions. Any event, it will create LONGTERM headaches for your organization.
- Change the Server’s Computer name. Just like idea number 2. More trouble.

- Microsoft Exchange 2003 has Service Pack 2 Installed
- Test IIS (Internet Information Server) components for proper connectivity
- Configure iPhone to your Exchange Server
Microsoft Exchange 2003 SP2
It is true, Windows 2003 automatic updates does not include the Exchange 2003 Service Pack 2 update, which is necessary for the iPhone to communicate to the Exchange Server. Here are the steps to determine if service pack 2 is installed:
- Open your Microsoft Exchange System Manager
- Expand Servers
- Properties of Server
- Check to see if you see Build 7638.2: Service Pack 2
If you do not, install Exchange Service Pack 2

Test IIS 6.0: OMA, Exchange components
- Open your browser and type: http://iphone-exchange-setup-ipaddressofserver/OMA (Outlook Mobile Access)
- Open your browser and type: http://iphone-exchange-setup- ipaddressofserver/Exchange (Exchange Web)
Both should connect without any error messages.

Setup iPhone to your Exchange Server
There only FOUR components that are typically necessary for a proper exchange – iPhone setup
- Email Address
- Exchange User Id
- Exchange Password
- Server Address (Also known as Outlook Web Address)
You typically do not need the DOMAIN name for most environments. We are looking for EXCHANGE ACCOUNT VERIFIED message. If you receive the message, VERIFICATION FAILED – this is a bad message. Something is missing or is wrong.
Common iPhone Exchange myths
iPhone Exchange Setup Suggestions to avoid
- Install Configure Outlook Anywhere within IIS / Exchange. [FALSE] RPC/HTTP : You will view this suggestion all the time on google. Great way to connect your Outlook 2007/2003 clients to your server, but has nothing to do with ActiveSync.
- IMAP Port 143, 993 open on firewall. [FALSE] Old school. You want Activesync working. These ports are not necessary for Activesync. Activesync works over TCP port 443 [you only need one port open on the firewall]
- Goddady, Verisign, etc. Certificate (Fully Qualified SSL Cert). [FALSE] A simple unsigned and unverified certificate is fine. Save yourself some time, money, and frustration. Go with a simple certificate. If you want a valid certificate, opt for the Godaddy $13.00 special. Google: “Godaddy SSL” you will see a Godaddy adword at the top advertising a $13.00 certificate.
- Install the certificate on the iPhone. [FALSE] You do not need to install any certificates on the phone. Save time!! Don’t do it. It will not improve your chances to sync. This will make the situation worse. Don’t do it.
- You need to update your iPhone to the latest firmware. [FALSE] If your Windows 2003 Exchange server is configured correctly, your iPhone will connect correctly.
- Need AT&T Business Data Plan for Exchange to Sync. [FALSE] Again, save your money. I am not sure why AT&T has this ploy. Their regular data plan works fine with Exchange.
- Resetting the IPHONE to factory defaults. [FALSE] Have not seen many times where a factory reset fixed a sync issue.
- Exchange 2003 Does not Support iPhone. [FALSE] Nice try! But the iPhone 2.0, 2.2, 3.0, 3.1 works perfectly with Microsoft Exchange 2003 Server.
