iPhone Activesync

Another busy weekend solving more and more corporate iphone activesync issues around the World. YES, our international business is picking up again. Most are contacting us via Skype, but others are opting to contact us via the phone 480.440.4650.

<img style="border-style: none;" src="http://download.skype.com/share/skypebuttons/buttons/call_green_white_124x52.png" alt="iPhone Activesync"width="68" height="31" />

The issues are different for each company, but the THEME is the same.

Battle for weeks with no solution for the dreaded iphone activesync.

These iPhone and Exchange users are persistant in their efforts to find a solution at ALL COST.

Contact Apple Technical Support - Receive a polite well trained counselor who puts them on hold for 5 minutes — (Suggesting that they are referring your problem to senior engineers) then routes the caller to a web page to read an installation document that informs the user of steps already known. Nice try.

Search Google – 1,000+ Posts. Reading through many sites who just “hijack” technical information to make the appearance that their site is legitimate. YET, the intention of the site is to sell them more BLING BLING for their iphone, instead of solving their iphone activesync issue. We did are own searching recently and we were chuckling over the fact that 98% of the post would not even get you close to a solution. Remember to backup your system before trying some of these posts. We have seen some very questionable suggestions that might create you a Bigger mess then you were bargaining for.

Phone a Friend - Contact all of your friends – technicians in your circle. You will be amazed on the suggestions. Some will suggest going to 2007, because 2003 does not support iPhone (WRONG). Some will suggest getting a legitimate certificate from Verisign (WRONG AGAIN).

Lets face it NONEof these corporate giants (Apple / AT&T / Rogers / O2 / Vodafone / want your iPhone activesync and Exchange working. Otherwise, they would have provided you some simple instructions to follow. We are here to fulfill this VOID.

We are seeking an increase in business from other Computer Repair companies as well. Yes, the smart ones contact us, because working on these issues for hours and hours without the ability to bill out for any of these extra hours.

How do you bill a customer $950 for an iPhone Install that took 10 hours to fix?

Well, we don’t even charge $950 for an iPhone – Microsoft Exchange Server fix. TechnoKOZ charges a FLAT rate FEE of $175.

But, this is an interesting question for a business owner or an IT Computer Repair Company to answer. What is my time really worth? We typically hear the statement “Wow! This was the best $175.00 I have spent in a long time!!! — and – There was no way I was going to figure this out. Where did you come up with this solution?

We aren’t iPhone and Exchange ActiveSync experts by chance. YES, we have seen all types of issues and condition of the Exchange 2003 System. Windows 2003 SBS, Windows 2003 Standard, Window 2003 Enterprise, Windows 2003 Data Center, and Exchange Cluster arrangements – Front End / Back End situations as well.

So my iphone 3G (2.1) will synch my email from the company exchange server just fine for a day or two then for no reason (that I can tell) stops. It goes into an endless connecting to server state and never gets past it. If I fully restore the phone, wiping the account clean, starting over it will validate the account, start synching mail, work for a while (a day or just a few hours) and then stop. I have the phone set for manual fetch. Any ideas?

Then they work fine….for another 2 or 3 days. I cannot sync my phone with our Exchange 2003 server. I am able to set up the account and receive verification on the account. As I attempt to sync, I receive the message “connection to the server failed.” I have valid certificates from VeriSign on the server and I assume the iphone came with similar certificates. I can receive emails via an imap account, however, I want to be able to utilize the features of Exchange. We also have an Ironport (antispam, etc.) system on the network and I am not sure if this has something to do with it.
iPhone Setup Suggestions to avoid

Outlook Anywhere - RPC/HTTP : You will view this suggestion all the time on google. Great way to connect your Outlook 2007/2003 clients to your server, but has nothing to do with ActiveSync.

IMAP Port 143, 993. Old school. You want Activesync working. These ports are not necessary for Activesync. Activesync works over TCP port 443

Goddady, Verisign, etc. Certificate. A simple unsigned and unverified certificate is fine. Save yourself some time, money, and frustration. Go with a simple certificate. If you want a valid certificate, opt for the Godaddy $13.00 special. Google: “Godaddy SSL” you will see a Godaddy adword at the top advertising a $13.00 certificate.

Install the certificate on the iPhone. This will make the situation worse. Don’t do it.

Exchange 2003 Does not Support iPhone. Nice try! But the iPhone 2.0, 2.2, 3.0, 3.1 works perfectly with Microsoft Exchange 2003 Server.

Why is it so difficult to setup a new iPhone 3.1 to your existing Microsoft Exchange 2003 / 2007 server?

Great question! A majority of these Exchange 2003 systems have been in place for many years. Various applications have been loaded – different IT solution providers / Admins have made adjustments, and Microsoft patches were probably never kept up to date.

There are many obstacles to avoid when trying to figure out why your Exchange server won’t sync your iPhone 3.1 phone via activesync.

TechnoKOZ is all about SAVING you time and FRUSTRATION.

We agree with you trying to fix this Exchange sync issue by yourself, but is it REALLY worth your time? We have been providing Quality iPhone Exchange Setup repair since July 2008. We have saved thousands of IT Admins, business owners, and end users countless hours of their precious time with our FLAT RATE ($175.00) Exchange Setup process.

Google Answers gone wrong!

Here is a sample of the junk on google right now for this iPhone Exchange Setup problem:

Reset the IIS Admin password for the Default Web site. : Would you like about 2 hours of a repair headache getting your OWA back to working condition? Yes, this suggestion is a REAL show stopper. Avoid it at all cost

Change the Server’s Domain name to match certificate name. This idea creates major METABASE security corruption. Not sure of the intentions. Any event, it will create LONGTERM headaches for your organization.

Change the Server’s Computer name. Just like idea number 2. More trouble.

iPhone Setup Suggestions to avoid

We know how frustrating it can be to have iPhone ActiveSync issues like unable to connect to server no email coming into your iPhone inbox. What can you do? First you contact Apple Technical support, who emails you a link to read the “Apple Exchange Server Deployment Guide”. Then you contact AT&T, who can’t even understand Microsoft Exchange, but suggests you purchase their “Enterprise Data Plan” (By the way, it is not necessary. Don’t purchase the Enterprise Data Plan)

You need a fully qualified ssl certificate from a authority such as Godaddy / Verisign. THIS IS FALSE. You do not need to purchase a certificate for the iPhone to sync with your exchange server. Save your money!!! Don’t make Godaddy or Verisign rich.

You have to install a certificate on the iPhone. THIS IS FALSE. You do not need to install any certificates on the phone. Save time!! Don’t do it. It will not improve your chances to sync

You need to update your iPhone to the latest firmware: iPhone 2.2 update. THIS IS FALSE. If your Windows 2003 Exchange server is configured, your iPhone will connect correctly.

Need AT&T Business Data Plan for Exchange to Sync. THIS IS FALSE. Again, save your money. I am not sure why AT&T has this ploy. Their regular data plan works fine with Exchange.

Resetting the IPHONE to factory defaults. THIS IS FALSE. Have not seen many times where a factory reset fixed a sync issue.

Windows 2003 Exchange Server does not support IPHONE. THIS IS FALSE. Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 does support the iPhone and it connects.

All of these various iPhone Exchange ActiveSync issues have even the best, TECHNOKOZ, perplexed! Our latest symptom is the Checking for Mail. This is quite an interesting problem. You see all of your Folders on the Iphone (Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Trash, Drafts, Junk Email, Outbox). When you open the Inbox, there is no Email items in the folder. The status shows “Checking for Mail”, near the sync button.

The Wheel at the top will spin for hours, as well as, the message “Checking for Mail” on the iPhone 3G. There are no ActiveSync error messages within the Windows 2003 event viewer.

You view the HTTP / ActiveSync Logs from IIS 6.0 to see:
